Dr. Mahathir, 'The Grand Poobah'

Memory Lane – 22
Dr. Mahathir, 'The Grand Poobah'
Finally, general election over. Like any other elections, there were surprises, disappointments and ‘poetic punishments.’
Surprise – A racist party like, Party Islam Malaysia (PAS) has made so much of impact in the North and Eastern states with Perikatan National front. (Also known as PN)
Disappointments – Pakatan Harapan could not achieve their minimum target of 112 seats despite very encouraging support been shown during the campaigning Period. Another disappointment was Barisan National’s dismal performance. This led to PN & PAS advantage.
Poetic Punishments – Mahathir Mohamed, the longest served premier of a nation in the world, finally lost his deposit and brought to his knees weeping.
Mahathir Mohamad, who is 97 whose father was Mohamad Iskandar a Penang Malay of Indian Descent. Married to a Malay lady named Wan Tempawan Wan Hanapi. Therefore, genetically speaking he would be classified as an Indian. However, our federal constitution says that, ‘any man who profess the religion of Islam, practices the Malay customs and speaks Malay would be considered a Malay.’ The problem with this ‘Grand Poobah’ is, due to his lineage he wanted to portray himself, he is someone who is more Malay than any original Malay. To maintain that image, he would call fellow ‘Non-Malay’ citizens, ‘immigrants’ despite some of the so called ‘Pendatang’ were already in this country for few generations. In fact, he himself was a ‘Migrant’. Yet, he portrays himself otherwise by calling himself Malay ang Bumiputra.
People have some romantic believe that, he has done a lot of good and progress to the country and he is a leader par excellence. But in reality, he did more harm than good to the country.
- He destroyed the Judicial Independence
- New Economic Policy was introduced in 1971 by Ismail to last for next 20 years until 1991. The objective of this policy was Affirmative Action also known as Positive Discrimination. Where a particular race was favored in the name of Eradication Poverty and Social Restructuring. In 1991, it was renamed to NDP (New Development Policy) and the all the discrimination policies were extended for another indefinite period. A Policy which was formulated to eradicated poverty did the opposite. The Elite Malays used this policy to enrich themself beyond imagination. Alas, the poor Malays became poorer. According to statistics, the poorest people in the country are Indians, Aborigines and Malays. What went wrong? Who cares.
- Project M or Project I C. The alleged object of this project is to alter the demographic pattern of Sabah to make it more favorable to the ruling government with regards to changing the electoral voting.
- Paving the way for political corruption.
- Cronyism
- Called fellow citizens ‘Immigrants’ and caused disharmony among races. In 2018, this ‘Papa Doc’ referred Malaysian Indians as “keeling”, which is used as a derogatory term. But it is not surprise of him using this word. Being a blackhearted racist is the innate nature of this ‘Papa Doc’.
To name few…

A date Mahathir will never forget until he loses his memory. Third time he formed new party called GTA and hope to win some seats to make some power-broking demand for Prime Minister post. So, his party stood for 168 parliamentary seats. ‘Papa Doc’ stood at his own playground called ‘Langkawi’. Then, came those long-awaited results and that ‘Poetic Judgement.’ Not only GTA lost all the seats it stood for but all lost their deposits too. ‘Papa Doc’ came forth in the race and lost deposit at his own playground. That is Poetic!
In Election, there is no greater humiliation for a Politician than losing their deposit. For an egoistic person like Mahathir, that is ‘hara-kiri’. Now, he has to live his remaining days with this ‘rejection’ from his own people. He is already 97. Yet, he still wants to be the Prime Minister for the third time. This arrogance and ego, what make people to hate him so much.
In management theory, there is a wonderful quote. “A good leader Inspires but a bad leader manipulates”. ‘Papa Doc’ knows very well what type of leader he was. He could never get along with Tengku (The 1st prime minister) Anwar, Musa Hitam & Tengku Razali.
Classic examples of his manipulative character. In corporate world, Tan Sri Ani Arope and Robert Kwok.
This was what Tengku Abdul Rahman, once said about Mahathir.
“This one man alone will bring down this nation.” And he did it. This country’s current sorry state was his doing.
Tan Sri Ani Arope said the following when Mahathir mooted the closed tender deal of IPP contracts.
“I do not want somebody to come and urinate my grave. In the Malay culture, that is about the worst insult they can do to a man.”
This ‘grand poohbah’s ego didn’t allow him to retire gracefully.
Now, not only ‘Papa Doc’ first time lost in a general election but lost his deposit too. What a ‘Poetic Justice!’.
With this humiliating Lost, I hope his days are not numbered in any way. He has lot more to see and regret in his remaining days.
